Iowa employment lawyers alert- Two workers were injured in a grain elevator explosion.

Boone, IA—An explosion at a grain elevator injured two nearby workers. The small explosion occurred in the grain dryer at the West Central Co-Op in Boxholm on Monday morning, November 16, 2009 around 8:45 a.m., as reported by KCCI.

According to a West Central Co-Op spokesperson, “ The explosion was contained to the dryer on the location. It’s a modern, medium-sized dryer. It’s outside of the elevator. We had two employees in the area at the time of the explosion. They did sustain some injuries, non-life threatening. They were taken to two area medical facilities for examination. That’s just following our standard corporate police and procedures.” One of the injured workers were reportedly working on a platform on the grain dryer when the explosion happened. Emergency medical services (EMS) teams transported one of the workers to Boone hospital, and the other was flown to Des Moines hospital for treatment.

The cause of the explosion has not been determined at this time. Smoke could even be seen for hours coming out of the area where the explosion occurred after the initial blast. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Boone County Ambulance, Boone County Fire Department, Ogden Fire Department, Boxholm fire Department and Pilot Mound Fire Department all responded to the scene. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time. The explosion is still under investigation.
