Construction worker falls 25 feet from BJ’s Wholesale Club roof

Legal news for Massachusetts construction accident lawyers—OSHA probes a construction accident at Massachusetts BJ’s wholesale club building site where a worker was injured.

Quincy, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) www.osha.gov is investigating the fall of a construction worker who sustained serious injuries after he fell off a BJ’s Club roof on Friday, November 6, 2009, announced the Patriot Ledger.

BJ’s Wholesale Club building was being built on Crown Colony Drive in Quincy when one of the workers, who was standing on the metal truss roof, suddenly he plummeted to the ground 25 feet below at 9 a.m.

Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene to transport the injured worker to the hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. Quincy Fire rescue officials reported that the worker injured his wrist, and it was likely that he also injured his neck and back in the fall.

An OSHA investigator was sent to the scene. OSHA has requirements for fall protection such as perimeter guards or fall protection equipment for work sites that are above six feet above the ground. The construction of BJ’s new 85,000-square foot store began in September. BJ’s is scheduled to open in April 2010.
