Maclaren USA recalls strollers after child fingertip amputations

Legal news for Connecticut Product Liability lawyers— CPSC and Maclaren recall strollers due to consumer reports of injury and finger tip amputation.

South Norwalk, CT (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The U.S. federal agency, Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Maclaren USA Inc. announced the immediate recall of Maclaren Strollers due to 12 consumer reports of injury on November 9, 2009.

Consumers are advised to discontinue use and to discourage others to stop using the recalled products immediately. Nearly one million products were sold nationwide. The distributor is Maclaren USA Inc. in South Norwalk, Connecticut.

The strollers were recalled due to reports of the strollers hinge mechanism catching a child’s finger tips and then requiring amputation due to severe laceration when the consumer opens or closes the stroller. There were 12 reports of children having their fingertips amputated with 15 reports altogether regarding complaints about the strollers.

The Maclaren strollers were sold at Babies “R” Us, Target, along with other mass merchandise retailers across the nation, for $100 to $360 from 1999 through November 2009. The defective strollers were manufactured in China. The strollers are described as single and double umbrella strollers with “Maclaren” printed. The models involved in the recall include the Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.
