New York State Trooper killed in Hudson Valley wreck

Legal news for New York Motor Vehicle Accident lawyers—An on-duty police officer was fatally injured in a tragic accident in Catskill, NY in a crash with a utility pole.

Catskill, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – New York State Police reported to the scene where an on-duty police officer wrapped his car around a utility pole after a collision in the Hudson Valley Wednesday, November 4 ,2009, announced WTEN.

Police and Emergency medical services (EMS) reported to the scene of the tragic accident that occurred around 2:25 p.m. in the afternoon.

The officer was traveling his squad car when he attempted to pass another vehicle in the northbound lanes of Route 32. The other vehicle clipped the officer’s car and sent him careening off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

The trooper was identified as 30-year-old David Lane, who was an officer with the Catskill barracks. David Lane had been an active member of the department for four years, and was patrolling the area at the time of the fatal crash. There was no information reported about the other driver.

Police temporarily closed both directions of Route 32 for emergency vehicles and so that detectives could investigate the scene of the accident.

Another news sources, The Watertown Daily Times, reported that the David Lane was the son of Cheryl and Stephan Lane, residents of Dexter, in northern New York. David had also served time as a soldier in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Army’s C Company, 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division.
