Rochester, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A man from Rochester was fatally injured when his sedan collided with a dump truck on Buffalo Road on Thursday, October 29, 2009, announced the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

Gates Township police reported that a sedan was heading east on Buffalo Road early Thursday morning when it swerved into the westbound traffic lanes, and crashed into an oncoming dump truck.

The collision took place near 965 on Buffalo Road around 8 a.m. Emergency medical services and police responded to the scene of the fatal accident.

Police identified the injured driver of the sedan as 35-year-old Ernest Jackson, who was rushed in an ambulance from the scene to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for serious life-threatening injuries. Rescue teams worked to extricate Jackson from his demolished vehicle for a half an hour before services could carry him into the ambulance.

Police reported that medical personnel declared that Ernest had passed away due to his severe injuries at 9:30 a.m. that same morning. The operator of the dump truck remained unharmed in the fatal collision. There was some debris scattered around the scene from the truck.

Police temporarily shut down the road where the scene of the wreck took place for four hours, and it was reopened for normal traffic around noon. Investigators are looking into the reason why Jackson would drive into traffic. The investigation continues.
