Los Angeles, CA—A Lake View Terrace resident was crushed to death by a trash compactor at a Southland factory. The fatal accident happened on Friday, October 23, 2009 around 3:44 p.m., at 8201 North Woodley Avenue, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated a man was found fatally crushed inside an industrial compactor at a Southland factory. Officials identified the deceased man as 64-year-old Efren Monterroso. Investigators believe Monterroso was crushing cardboard at the factory, and was inside the machine when the fatal accident occurred.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the tragic accident by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews. The cause and the circumstances surrounding the accident is under investigation by the LAPD, federal officials from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/, and the Los Angeles County coroner. The reason why Monterroso was inside the trash compactor when it switched on is also under investigation. The name of the factory where the incident took place has not been released at this time. Reportedly, multiple businesses share the same address. The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded to the scene of the fatal workplace accident.
