Georgia personal injury attorneys alerts- A chemical spill at Georgia Institute of Technology sent three people to the hospital.

Atlanta, GA—A toxic chemical spill at the Georgia Institute of Technology shut down the college campus and sent three people to the hospital. The chemical spill and evacuation happened on Thursday night, October 22, 2009 around 7:10 p.m., at 801 Atlantic Drive, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Fire officials reported, the buildings which hold the College of Computing and numerous other science and engineering labs were evacuated after learning of the dangerous chemical spill. No one present in those buildings were reportedly injured. The corrosive chemicals were identified as nitric acid and potassium cyanide. Three people were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital by area emergency medical services (EMS) teams for observation. It is currently unknown what types of injures the three hospitalized victims sustained from the spill. By 9:00 p.m., HAZ-MAT teams were able to contain and neutralize the chemical spill. In addition, the Atlanta Fire and Rescue HAZ-MAT team, Georgia Tech police, and the college’s Environmental Health and Safety units all responded to the chemical spill. It is still unknown what caused the spill, or how the injured people came into contact with the chemicals. Georgia Tech officials reportedly reopened the evacuated buildings at 7:00 a.m., on Friday.
