Curwensville, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A fire truck transporting six firefighters was damaged due to a problem with the road. The incident occurred while they were en route to combat a fire on Saturday, October 10, 2009, announced The Progress.
Six Grampian-Penn-Bloom (G-P-B) firefighters from Station 9 were traveling on the highway when their truck went out of control, and hit a tree on the embankment off the highway, around 4 a.m. Firefighter Justin Bickel, who was riding in the back of the fire truck, reported that “the road just gave way”.
Emergency medical services (EMS) reported to the scene to transport three firefighters for minor injuries, and the three others to Clearfield Hospital for an evaluation. The equipment and the Fire truck were greatly damaged in the crash, which had to be transported by a tow truck from the scene.
They were responding to a building fire located in Pike Township off of Hemlock Hollow Road, when the crash occurred. Firefighters from Station 8 of G-B-P also responded to combat the blaze early Saturday morning.
G-B-P firefighters from Station 9 were delayed in responding to the fire due to the crash. It was reported that the fire had started from a heating unit in the house. The CRHL firefighters reported fire had climbed up to the second story of the house. The CRHL firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly without too much damage. There were no reports of injured firefighters combating the blaze.
