Legal news for New York truck accident attorneys–Suffolk County police squad car hit by Toyota pickup truck injured the NY officer and the other driver.

Suffolk County, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A pickup truck rear-ended a Suffolk County police squad vehicle in Holtsville on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, announced Newsday.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 41-year-old Brian Berky, of Manorville. The Suffolk County official was identified as Officer Robert Diamond.

Brian Berky sustained serious injuries in the wreck. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived to transport the injured, and intoxicated Berky to the Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was treated by doctors and nurses for serious head trauma, fractured bones, and lacerations.

Medical officials treated Officer Robert Diamond at the scene of the crash for minor injuries. Officer Diamond was following behind four Department of Transportation (DOT) www.dot.gov/ trucks heading west on the LIE near Exit 63, around 11:00 a.m. A pickup truck then slammed into the marked police car following the DOT trucks, and rolled over onto the vehicle’s roof.

Berky, who was driving his 2004 Toyota pickup truck, attempted to pass Diamond’s police car but instead hit the Suffolk squad car, flipped over, landed on the guardrail, and launched Berky out of the vehicle.

Police charged Berky with driving under the influence, and assigned him a date to appear in court for a DUI, driving without a seat belt, and operating a motor vehicle without a license. He is expected to be present in the First District Court, located in Central Islip, on December 4th.
