Baltimore Sun business editor killed in UPS truck crash

Hereford, MD (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The business editor of the Baltimore Sun newspaper was killed when a UPS truck crashed into the driver’s side of his vehicle on Monday morning, October 5, 2009, announced The Oakland Press.

The business editor, 48-year-old Tim Wheatley, was traveling with his 9-year-old daughter in Dover a few blocks away from their home, when they were struck at an intersection by a UPS delivery truck. Police reported that Wheatley was attempting to make a left hand turn when a UPS truck t-boned the driver’s side of his car, and fatally wounded Wheatley. Police officials declared him dead at the scene of the crash.

Police officials made sure that the traffic lights on both sides were working properly to determine if the lights were a contributing factor in the accident. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported Wheatley’s daughter to a local hospital to be treated for her serious injuries. Officials on the scene did not report if the UPS truck driver was injured in the crash.

Tim Wheatley began working for the Baltimore Sun in 2006 where he started as an assistant editor and writer for the sports section. He soon moved into the business department within the newspaper. He reportedly managed the money and spending for the newspaper. Police officials are conducting a full investigation to determine the cause for the fatal accident.
