San Diego, CA—A dump truck driver was killed at the Miramar Landfill after be became trapped under the bin of his dump truck. The fatal accident happened on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 around 11:00 a.m., as reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

According to officials from San Diego’s Environmental Services Department, a 38-year-old Escondido man has just finished unloading garbage from his Dodge 3500 dump truck when he began to drive away, and noticed the bin was still in the upright position. Officials believe the dump truck driver then got out of his truck, and crawled into the space between the cab of the truck and the bin to fix the problem that was keeping the bin upright. The bin apparently fell and pinned the man to the chassis. Landfill employees rushed to help the man, and lifted the bin off of him and began to administer Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the dump truck driver. Area paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after and also unsuccessfully attempted to revive the man. The Medical Examiners Office has ruled the death as an accident, and are currently withholding the identity of the deceased dump truck driver until his family has been notified.
