Long Island firefighters rescue trapped SUV driver off of train tracks!

East Rockaway, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A Nassau County woman driving with her daughter were taken to the ER after their SUV hit two parked cars, a utility pole and rolled over on the railroad tracks landing on the driver’s side, announced Newsday.

The crash occurred around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday morning at the intersection of Forest and Rocklyn Avenue. Trains were stopped for hours so that firefighters could pull the trapped woman out of the damaged vehicle off the Long Island train tracks. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials are probing the crash to determine the cause. Eye-witnesses who questioned about the crash and said that the SUV appeared to speed up coming down the street before it crashed and flipped.

The woman and little girl were both transported via ambulance to the South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, Both were said to have non-life threatening injuries. The names of the two females have not been released.

The railway sparked electricity and smoke was rising from the scene of the crash, reported police officials. The railway electricity was turned off before the firefighters rescued the trapped woman from the SUV with the hydraulic rescue tool the “jaws of life”.
The power had to be shut off before firefighter used the Jaws of Life to free the woman from the wreckage about 20 minutes after the crash. The passenger had already escaped out of the wrecked vehicle and was reportedly on the phone crying. The girl appeared to be of grade school age. The SUV accident delayed the trains and sent buses to transport people to their destinations until the power was turned back on and the crash scene was cleared away after a few hours.
