South Side fire truck wreck injures 5 firefighters plus 2

Chicago Fire Department truck struck by motor vehicle while responding to a South Side fire. Five Chicago firefighters were injured when their rig was hit by a car in Woodlawn.

Chicago, IL–Fire Media Affairs for the Chicago Fire Department confirmed a fire truck responding to a fire at 8036 S. Brandon Avenues was struck by a small red car on Saturday as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The fire truck was traveling on S. Jeffery Boulevard when it was struck by a motor vehicle in the 6700 block at 4:53 p.m. The accident initiated an EMS Plan 1 response which automatically sends five ambulances to the crash scene.

The fire truck accident injured five firefighters and reports stated one of the firemen was critically injured. The firefighters were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to Northwester Memorial Hospital, Advocate Trinity Hospital and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of their injuries. Both the driver and passenger of the automobile were critically injured and transported by Cook County EMS personnel to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
