NY Premises Liability News – Mother sues landlord for rat bites found on toddler

Legal news for New York premises liability lawyers – New York Bronx apartment tenant sues property owner for finding rat bites on her child.
Bronx, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) —  In a local Bronx rented apartment, an angry mother issued a claim and sued her landlord for a rat infestation with evidence due to the discovery of several bites on her toddler’s legs, as announced by the New York Daily News.

The angry tenant had previously filed a complaint regarding the noticeable rats and mice appearances in her apartment.  The mother, Jonnique McKinney was alarmed to find multiple rat bites on both of her daughter’s legs, which compelled her to sue her landlord for not addressing the rodent issue in their apartment building located in Clay Avenue in 2007.

In attempt to eradicate the rats, an exterminator was hired to block the tenant’s radiator with steel wool.  The tenant’s lawyer commented on behalf of his client stating that the rodents still bit up the child’s legs. The 2-year-old, Jonaih went to the hospital where doctors and nurses verified that the child’s legs were bitten by rats. She was reported to have been bitten 5 times while sleeping in her crib.

McKinney decided to sue her building landlord of Claremont Park LLC in 2008.  The landlord also filed a suit against Dependable Exterminating in Court.
