2 New york police squad cars collide, injures 2, kills K-9

NY police squad vehicles collided injured 2 policemen who were taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment

New Paltz, NY (NewYorkinjuryNew.com) — 2 Police squad vehicles collided injuring both officers and killed a department trained K-9 late Friday night July 31, announced by the Mid-Hudson News.  Both police officers were on their way to answer an official call to investigate a local burglar alarm in New Paltz, according to Authorities.

The officers were reported to be 24-year-old Joseph Judge and 38-year-old Robert Knoth. The trained K-9, known by the department as “Zeus”, was killed in the collision of the vehicles.

En route to the resident’s house on North Putt Corners Road, the unit vehicles crashed into each other close to Erman Lane.
At the scene of the crash, both police drivers—Knoth and Judge— were unable to free themselves from their damaged vehicles.  The officers were pulled out by emergency fire rescue workers used a powerful hydraulic rescue tool commonly known as the “jaws of life”, to release the trapped officers.

The officers were transported via trauma helicopter to Albany Medical Center for their minor injuries. Joseph Judge was treated and discharged from the hospital two days later, while Robert Knoth remains in the care of doctors of nurses for broken bones and other minor injuries.

Detectives continue to investigate the scene of the crash between the 2 police unit squad vehicles.
