Bloomberg witnesses to company Bloomberg LP in class action lawsuit

Legal News for New York attorneys representing discrimination claims.

New York City, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com)–New York City mayor Bloomberg witnessed against class action lawsuit initiated by discriminated pregnant women with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), according to the New York Times.

Mayor Bloomberg, owner of fiscal news corporation–Bloomberg LP– testified in court on Monday, July 27th, addressing the evidence claiming that his company mistreated and discriminated against women—especially pregnant women in the workplace. Two of the plaintiffs, represented by New York Attorney, stated that the Mayors demeanor was indifferent about the whole case, although he was direct in answering questions. Mayor Bloomberg’s attorney disagreed with the prosecuting attorney, stating that the Mayor was very responsive and his disposition was appropriate.

The questioning process in the courtroom with Mayor Bloomberg lasted three and a half hours. This suit was filed back in September 2007 by the EEOC due to the claims of more than 80 women who worked for Bloomberg LP company. This lawsuit allegation against Bloomberg LP was spurred by the dozens of filed complaints of pregnant women seeking maternity leave. Although, the Mayor is a major investor of the company; he is not the one who is being  accused.

The bias and discrimination against the plaintiffs were enacted after Bloomberg decided to run for election for Mayor in 2001. The Mayor appeared in court to witness to his experience with executives in Bloomberg LP briefly before he assumed his title of mayor, stated the attorney. Mayor Bloomberg is set on running for re-election in November. It is plausible that he may be asked to reappear in court to confirm details about the lawsuit at a later date.
