Bus driver deserts first-grader

A Bronx bus driver forced a small first-grade student off of the bus since it was the end of the route, and he had not yet gotten off.

Bronx, New York – Jaeden Vasquez, only five years old, had a traumatic afternoon after a school day this week. School officials are unsure of how little Jaeden was put onto the school bus, since he did not belong on any bus route, and normally walks right across the street to his neighborhood. When Jaeden realized he was lost, he asked a woman on the street for help. Thankfully, she was kind enough to return Jaeden to the school unharmed, but slightly shaken up. School officials claim they have launched an investigation.

The child’s mother, Aileen Bonilla says the school apologized but that “sorry” wouldn’t have replaced her son if he had gotten killed. It is shocking that the bus driver, (still unknown at this time) had the audacity to let the child off the bus with no one to care for him. Especially when it is Department of Education rules which states ‘five-year old children are not supposed to be let off school busses unless an adult is waiting.’ If there is a child left on the bus at the end of the route, it is standard procedure to return him to the school’s care. The repercussions for this individual’s actions could have been devastating to this family. Dangers are imminent even in the most remote small towns of America, never mind the Bronx.
