Sterling Silver Teething Ring Recall

New York Injury News on Defective Product Liability. New York City, NY (New York Injury News )  — A voluntary recall has been announced by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for Sterling Silver Teething rings manufactured by Brooklyn based company, Empire Silver Company of Brooklyn, New York. The recall of approximately 1,000 teething rings is due to the discovery of a potential choking hazard to infant children. The products have been sold nationwide in department stores and other specialty gift retailers for up to $120. Those in possession of the teething rings are advised to return them to their place of purchase in exchange for a replacement item, or refund.

The teething rings have been deemed potentially hazardous to infants due to a silver ball component with beads inside that can become detached and swallowed. This may lead to aspiration or choking. No incidents or injuries have currently been reported in association with the teething rings. Those with further questions or inquires about the product recall can contact Empire Silver Company by calling 1-800-255-9475, or visit them online at www.empiresilver.com. Business contact hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission works to help ensure that consumer products are safe for use. The agency reportedly has over 15,000 types of products under their jurisdiction and provides protection from those with potential chemical, mechanical, electrical, health related, or other dangers. More than $800 billion is spent yearly on injuries and damages caused by consumer products. State laws include provisions for receiving legal compensation for damages in the event that one receives a product related or other type of personal injury. The US CPSC has set up a hotline, 1-800-638-2772, for individuals to report products that are hazardous or related injuries.
