Long Island police arrests woman for striking an officer with her car – New York Injury News

Long Island, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — On Friday, a lady from Copiague was arrested for hitting an officer with car. A First Precinct Suffolk County officer interviewed the woman about the incident that took place at 6:45 PM at 55 Wilson Avenue in Copiague while the woman was trying to run away from the scene. Dawn Harris, 50, tried to flee from the scene and while reversing her car, struck a police officer knocking him down.

Harris fled from the scene immediately and was intercepted by another unit at where she hit another four cars that were parked. After the second accident occurred, Harris ran from the scene running numerous red lights. However, police chased Harris and cornered her at South Seven Street and Montauk Highway. The police officer who was struck by Harris had minor injuries and was treated and released from Southside Hospital while Harris was treated for minor injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.

According to police, Harris has been charged with second degree assault for driving under the influence, and running from the scene of an accident, as well as running from police. Harris not only struck the police officer but also tried to escape unlawfully while breaking traffic rules causing damage to parked cars.

On Saturday, Harris was arraigned at the First District Court in Central Island where she will was found guilty.
