New York Motor Vehicle Lawyers Awarded $2.4 Million in Pedestrian Accident Case

New York City, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — On March 17, 2008, Robert G. Sullivan, Esq. of Sullivan Papain Block McGrath & Cannavo won $2.4 Million from a Queens County jury on behalf of a 72 year old man, struck by a New York Transit Authority (“Transit Authority”) bus.

One morning in April 2006, Anthony Stanisich was crossing a Queens, New York street, traveling along a crosswalk with the “walk signal.” Simultaneously, a Transit Authority bus began making a left turn onto the same street as Mr. Stanisich. Seemingly oblivious to the pedestrian before him, the bus driver steered into the section of street marked with a crosswalk, hitting our client.

Mr. Stanisich suffered a concussion, fractured vertebrae, carpel tunnel syndrome, and a shoulder injury. He was in the hospital for seven days.

The Transit Authority tried to blame Mr. Stanisich, claiming that he wasn’t looking where he was going and, essentially, walked into the path of the moving bus. The defendant also attributed his lingering pain to pre-existing arthritis and degenerative changes. During trial, the Transit Authority refused to offer more than $125,000 to settle the case.

The jury saw things our way, holding the TA 100% responsible for this preventable mishap. Mr. Stanisich was found free from fault. As result of the $2.4 Million verdict, Mr. Stanisich should recover the compensation he deserves.
