Long Island forklift operator burned in industrial accident

Suffolk, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — On Monday night, a tank filled with propane began leaking and caught fire while burning the legs and arms of the driver in an industrial accident. Both the forklift operator and his co-worker evacuated before the tank caught fire and exploded at the bolting plant in Melville. The person injured was Kevin Mieschberger, a 42 years old resident of North Babylon who was working at HiLo fork shift around 10:00 PM on the Monday night when he was replacing the empty tanks of liquid propane gas with filled tanks while he noticed gas leak. Kevin Mieschberger was working at 315, Baylis Road in the Canada Dry Bottling Co.

The accident occurred while Kevin Mieschberger was tightening a fitting upon a bottle when he found a leak that intensified and eventually ignited and let to a blast that caused second degree burns on his arms and legs. After he along with his seven co-workers was brought safely from the liquid propane blast by the police, the building sprinkler system controlled the fire. Kevin Mieschberger was immediately taken to Nassau University Medical Centre by the ambulance of Fire Department of Melville. Kevin Mieschberger was admitted in the burn unit of Nassau University Medical Centre. However, there are minor injuries at the building.

Both Mieschberger and his co-workers were evacuated on time and this averted a big tragedy that cold lead to the loss of many lives. The police intervened on time and rescued Kevin Mieschberger and his group on time while the Fire department ensured all the injured were taken to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Mieschberger nurses second degree burn on his hands and legs while averting major injuries that could have taken place in the Canada Dry Bottling Co. where fire broke out in the bottling unit where empty bottles of liquid propane gas were replaced with filled ones.
