Bethlehem Township, PA — A tractor-trailer and a train collided Monday morning, January 23, 2012, spilling 200 gallons of diesel fuel and injuring the driver. The train accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on Brodhead Road just before the intersection with Route 191 Road in Bethlehem Township, reported LehighValleyLive.com.

According to reports, the semi was headed west on Brodhead when he passed the Monocacy Creek and drove in front of a southbound Norfolk Southern train.

The train engine slammed into the cargo area of the truck, just behind the cab, which split the truck in half. The cab came to a rest on the west side of the train, while the trailer was found on the east side.

Responding emergency crews rushed the trucker, Robert Altemose, Jr., 55, to St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill for treatment. Altemose reportedly sustained a bad laceration to his head.

Due to the fuel leak, there could be a possible violation of the Clean Streams Law. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is looking into the contamination risk of the Monocacy Creek.

Investigations into the 18-wheeler and train crash are underway.
