School Bus, Tractor-Trailer Crash in Central Texas Injures 32

Temple, TX — A violent collision involving a school bus filled with children and a semi-truck, injured 32 people on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. The school bus accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 93, on the southeastern outskirts of Temple, reported CBS News.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that a hardware tractor-trailer had apparently run a stop sign, when it hit the Academy school district bus.
The collision caused the bus to overturn onto its side, ejecting a 9-year-old boy through the escape hatch on the bus’ roof.
Responding emergency crews rushed 32 people, including 29 children, to a central Texas hospital for medical treatment. Three of the 29 injured children were admitted to the Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, where one is in critical condition. The 26 others were treated and released.
The school bus driver, who was knocked unconscious in the wreck, is listed in critical condition. Two other adults, including the truck driver, were treated and released.
Officials say it is unclear whether the foggy conditions at the time factored into the crash.
The school bus was carrying about 38 children from all grade levels, who were being transported to three different school locations to be dropped off.
Investigations into the injurious school bus accident are underway.
