Lakeland, FL — The parents of a 6-year-old Autistic boy are angry after their son was mistakenly left on a school bus for hours after he had fallen asleep in his seat. The boy was left on the school bus Monday morning, December 5, 2011, and was only found after the bus driver returned to the bus to leave for another run, reported Bay News 9.
According to reports, Latisha Morton, the mother of Cole Morton, is angry because no one ever apologized for the incident, and the bus driver tried to blame the boy for being left on the bus.
Cole was supposed to be dropped off at Combee Elementary School in Lakeland, but instead was left on the bus for two to three hours after had fallen asleep on the way to school.
The bus was parked at the driver’s house, and was only found when the driver went to leave for another run.
Latisha began to panic when the school alerted her that her son had not arrived in class.
The school bus driver failed to follow policies that require bus drivers to walk to the back of the bus to check the seats to ensure that no children were left on the bus.
School officials have launched an investigation into the incident and the driver is expected to face disciplinary action.
