Boy Scouts of America Recalls Cub Scout Wind Jackets for Strangulation Risks

Charlotte, NC — Strangulation has prompted a recall of about 5,400 Cub Scout Wind Tech jackets by the Boy Scouts of America and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The nationwide product recall was issued by the CPSC on November 3, 2011.

The recall was enacted after it became apparent that the jacket’s retractable cords with toggles at the hood/neck and waist area can pose a strangulation or entrapment hazard to children.

“This recall includes the blue Cub Scout Wind Tech jacket sold in youth sizes. The jackets are nylon with a polyester lining, long-sleeve, with a full zipper front and a Cub Scout wolf head emblem embroidered on the upper left chest. SKU numbers 73291, 73292, and 73293 are printed on the hangtag that is attached to the jacket at retail,” reported the CPSC.

Consumers are advised to either remove the cords, or return the jacket to the Boy Scouts of America for a full refund.
