Glenn County, CA — Two people were injured, including one man who was severely shocked, during a construction accident at C.K. Price Middle School Wednesday, October 26, 2011. The work-related accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at a construction site on the school grounds, reported the Chico Express-Enterprise.

Orland police reported that Mark Godfrey Jr., 23, was standing next to a forklift that was being operated by his father, Mark Godfrey, 50, while grasping a pole that his father was attempting to maneuver with the construction machinery.

In doing so, the forklift came into contact with 12,000-volt wires. The electrical shock knocked Godfrey Jr. to the ground, and caused the forklift’s tires to catch fire.

Another worker, identified as 40-year-old Scott Gully, threw water onto the burning tires to extinguish them, but instead he was shocked.

Responding emergency crews from the Orland volunteer firefighters and an ambulance crew rushed to the scene; where they airlifted Godfrey Jr. to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment of serious electrical shock injuries, reported the Orland Press-Register.

Gully suffered burns and was treated at the scene. He refused an ambulance transport and sought treatment from Enloe Hospital in Chico, where he was treated and released.

The construction accident is under investigation and investigators with CalOSHA are expected to arrive at the scene.
