Milford, CT—A construction accident on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, left a worker with injuries when the trench he was working in collapsed. The accident occurred around 10:59 a.m., at 369 W. Mayflower Place, as reported by the New Haven Register.
A Ralph Camputaro & Son Excavating worker was reportedly working on a city sewer project, while doing sewer and storm drainage work, when the trench, which was about 20 feet deep, suddenly collapsed. When the trench collapsed, a metal support beam was pushed, causing it to hit the worker on the head.
The worker, who is said to be in his 50s, sustained serious head, neck and back injuries, was rushed by responding emergency crews to Yale-New Haven Hospital’s trauma center. Officials say his injured appeared to be non-life threatening.
It took rescue crews about 30 minutes to pull the injured worker from the trench. Two Ralph Camputaro & Son Excavating co-workers reportedly helped firefighters lift the injured worker from the trench.
Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the construction accident.
