Portland, OR—About 7,000 folding wooden chairs were voluntarily recalled by Fred Meyer Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) over a fall hazard the White Tiger Traders Co. Ltd- manufactured chairs pose. The CPSC announced the recall on August 19, 2010.
The recall was announced after discovering that the wooden frame of the chair can break, resulting in a fall hazard to users. At this time, Kroger Co. and White Tiger have received three reports of the wooden chairs breaking, which have resulted in minor back and shoulder pain, sprains and contusions.
The CPSC reported, “This recall includes wooden folding chairs. The chairs were sold individually and as part of a three-piece set that included one table and two chairs. ‘HD Outdoor’ is printed on the chair’s packaging.”
The recalled chairs were sold at Kroger, Fred Meyer, Ralph’s, Fry’s, Smith’s, Dillon’s, Gerbes, City Market, and Baker’s stores nationwide from February 2009 through December 2009. The individually sold chairs cost about $130.
Consumers are advised to return the chairs to the place of purchase to receive a full refund.
