FDA Alert: Product recall – StarKist Co, SeaSations® recalls frozen fish fillets

April 21, 2010 (NewYorkInjuryNews.com - Injury News, Product Liability)

SeaSations issued a recall of test market product.

Legal news for product liability attorneys – The FDA and StarKist Co. issued a voluntary recall of Thai with Basil and Teriyaki Orange and Ginger fish fillets.

StarKist announced a recall of SeaSations® products for undeclared wheat ingredient.

Pittsburgh, PA (www.NewYorkInjuryNews.com) - On Thursday, April 15, 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, (FDA) www.fda.gov, announced that StarKist Co., of Pittsburgh, was announcing a voluntary recall of two SeaSations® frozen whole fish fillet products. The products contain wheat, which was not declared on the packaging.

The products are named Thai with Basil, with UPC code 80000 50007 and Teriyaki Orange and Ginger, with UPC code 80000 50112. All of the 11.4-ounce packages of these two varieties of fish are subject to the recall, regardless of Best By Date or Manufacturing Code.

SeaSations is a test market product, which means it was only made available in the following states: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

All other SeaSations products are correctly labeled, thus unaffected by the recall.

No StarKist® tuna products are involved in this voluntary recall either.

Undeclared wheat within a product poses a risk for those with allergies to the substance. People who are allergic to wheat may run the risk of serious adverse health consequences by consuming the product.

As of the date of the recall, no illnesses were reported.

Consumers are advised to contact the StarKist Consumer Hotline at (800) 252–1587 for information about the recall and ways to receive a replacement product. StarKist is working with the FDA in issuing the recall.
