FDA releases up-to-date list of products recalled for potentially hazardous HVP

Product liability attorney alerts- Salmonella risk associated with hydrolyzed vegetable protein prompts long list of product recalls, FDA reported.

West Palm Beach, FL —With the list of product recalls announced in regards to potentially contaminated hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) growing daily, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov has made an inventory of all products affected by the recall as of Monday, March 8, 2010. The hydrolyzed vegetable protein, sold to manufacturers in paste and powders, was used in many food products sold throughout the United States and may pose a Salmonella risk to consumers, consequently prompting the mass recall of products containing HVP.

According to the FDA, “Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”
