Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. Certain Pringles chips recalled for possible Salmonella contamination.

Product liability lawyer alerts- Potential Salmonella contamination prompted Proctor and Gamble and the FDA to announce product recall of Pringles potato chips.

Cincinnati, OH (News)—Proctor and Gamble, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Safety Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov, has voluntarily recalled two types of Pringles chips due to a potential health risk associated with them. The product recall was announced on Monday, March 8, 2010, and joins a growing pool of products recalled due to possible salmonella contamination of hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), an ingredient supplied by Las Vegas, Nevada-based Basic Food Flavors, according to information provided by the Examiner.com.

Though no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled product, Pringles Restaurant Cravers Cheeseburger potato crisps, as well as Pringles Family Faves Taco Night potato crisps with “best by” dates are prior to June 2011. Consumers have been urged to contact P&G for a full reimbursement or replacement coupon. The firm may be contacted at (877) 876-7881 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

According to the FDA, “Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”
