Five pedestrians were injured, one fatally, when an SUV crashed into them in a Brooklyn church parking lot.
New York City, NY (News)—One person was killed and four others were injured when an SUV backed into five people in a Brooklyn church parking lot. The sport utility vehicle allegedly accelerated for unknown reasons prior to impact, according to information provided by the New York Times.
Authorities dispatched to the scene reported that a 2010 Mercedes SUV was pulling out of a parking spot at the Pyeong Ahn Presbyterian Church after dropping off a passenger, when it sped up for unknown reasons, striking a group of pedestrians near the church playground. The sport utility vehicle then proceeded to continue backing up at an excessive rate of speed, hitting a fence and a church van before coming to a rest. Police officials probed church security cameras as a means of finding out how the accident occurred.
Three adults and two children were among the victims injured in the incident. One of the adult bystanders sadly suffered fatal injuries after the crash. Two children, ages 1 and 10, as well as two adults, ages 36 and 41, were transported to Lutheran Medical Center by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews to be treated by doctors and nurses. Their injuries were not deemed to be life threatening. It was unknown if the unidentified 72-year-old motorist sustained any injuries in the wreck. No charges have been filed in connection with the fatal accident as of yet. Investigations are expected to continue.
