The Chicken Soup base was made with hydrolyzed vegetable protein, which was manufactured by Basic Food Flavors Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada. The company, Basic Food Flavors discovered the Salmonella contamination and recalled their hydrolyzed vegetable protein.

The Castella Chicken Soup Base was distributed across the country to food vendors in 25 lbs. packages and was sold in retail stores by the pound in a solid jar with a white cap, a gold seal and a yellow label. The UPC code was 750144330005. The recalled lot numbers are: 0912039918, 1001121915, 1002013074, and 1002194266.

The dates the recalled products expired were listed as 12-3-2010 through 2-28-2011. There have been no cases of illness reported with the recalled products as of yet. All who have purchased these products may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
