Personal injury lawyer alerts- South Carolina Highway Patrol, county coroner to investigate fatal ambulance-involved incident.

Greenville, S.C. (News)—A teen was killed after jumping from a moving ambulance en route to a psychiatric facility on Sunday, February 28, 2010. The tragic incident occurred on Interstate 85, according to information provided by WYFF4.com.

The Greenville County coroner reported that a 16-year-old male was being transferred from the emergency room at Greenville Memorial Hospital to William S. Hall Psychiatric Facility, located in Columbia, South Carolina, when he allegedly “loosened his restraints, ran past the EMT with him, opened the door and jumped out the vehicle”. Upon jumping from the Greenville Hospital Systems ambulance at approximately 12:45 p.m., the teenager, identified as Ryan Emory, hit the pavement and rolled several times before going into cardiac arrest.

Medical personnel aboard the ambulance attempted to treat the injured patient but weren’t successful in doing so. At 1:16 p.m., the county coroner unfortunately pronounced Emory dead at the scene, located on between Laurens Road and Interstate 385 on I-85. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, March 1, 2010, in regards to the fatal incident. It was unknown why the teen decided to leap from the ambulance. Investigations by the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office are reported underway.
