Illinois employment lawyer alerts- OSHA expected to investigate workplace accident in which worker was injured in explosion.

Bedford Park, IL (News)—An explosion at a metal work manufacturing facility left two people injured on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. The factory is located on the 7300 block of Narragansett Avenue, according to information provided by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Authorities from the Bedford Park Police Department reported that the blast was detonated inside the building after an electrical transformer blew out. According to a web directory, Archer Wire International Corp. is the business located at the address where the explosion occurred. Firefighters from the Bedford Park Fire Department were seemingly dispatched to the scene after receiving notification of the electrical blast through an employee at the factory.

Reports stated two people were injured in the incident, though deputies did not disclose their identities or any specific occupational details. Fire rescue crews allegedly transported one injured victim to Loyola University Medical Center and another to Advocate Christ Medical Center to be treated by doctors and nurses. Deputies did not release their conditions. The explosion reportedly caused minimal damage to the wire fabricating and finishing factory. Also, an evacuation was apparently deemed unnecessary. Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to look into the workplace accident.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) http://www.bls.gov, there were seven fire/explosion-related injuries and 193 total work-place accidents reported in Illinois during 2008.
