OSHA cited company for construction accident in PA.

Legal news for Pennsylvania construction accident attorneys – Construction company Mariani & Richards Inc. was cited after worker fell 225 feet off building.

Pittsburgh, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Construction company Mariani &Richards Inc. was cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) www.osha.gov after an investigation conducted August 18, 2009, where a worker fell 225 feet to his death.

OSHA discovered that the construction company was not providing their workers with the necessary fall protection while they were working on The Pennsylvania Building located in downtown Pittsburgh. OSHA has decided to fine the company for one willful violation with a penalty of $70,000. A willful violation is defined as an act committed with indifference or intentional neglect of the company’s employees safety and health.

“This company was cited for the same violation in November 2007 but never took the proper steps to ensure workers were safe at this worksite, resulting in this tragedy,” said Robert Szymanski, director of OSHA’s Pittsburgh office. “OSHA will not tolerate employers who flagrantly ignore the regulations designed to protect workers on the job.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 holds employers responsible for providing a safe and healthy work environment for all of their employees. The goal of OSHA is to enforce and reaffirm that these conditions and safety regulations are met for the benefit of all America’s workforce through upholding standards, providing training, education and assistance.
