Lawsuit filed against Pittsburgh hospital for Steeler player’s death

Pittsburgh, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The family of former Pittsburgh player, Dwight White, has filed a lawsuit against a Pittsburgh hospital for negligence, which the family claims, led to his death, according to the Post-Gazette.
The attorney hired by the White family filed suit Monday, February, 1, 2010, against the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital, UPMC Health System and three doctors for medical negligence, which allegedly led to the players unnecessary death.
The Steeler’s former defensive end was reportedly a healthy man before he had surgery on his back May 12, 2008, claimed his lawyer. After the operation, the lawsuit claims that his health became worse. His wife had taken him to the emergency room to be examined by doctors. He was soon diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, which is a blockage in the main artery of the lung. Dwight past away soon after being taken to the intensive care unit at UPMC Presbyterian less than a month after his back surgery. He was 58-years-old when he died.
Dwight White was a crucial player of the Steelers’ legendary Steel Curtain line of defense. Dwight played with the Steelers from 1971 to 1980. He won four Super Bowl championships during his football career. Before Dwight past away, he was a senior managing director of public finance for Mesirow Financial’s Pittsburgh office.
