Legal news for automobile accident attorneys. The bans on hands-held devices are not lowering the amount of accidents.

Automobile accident lawyers alert- The Highway Loss Data Institute revealed that cell phone bans don’t reduce crashes.

West Palm Beach, FL—A shocking report by the Highway Loss Data Institute has revealed that the laws banning the use of hand-held devices, like cell phones, have not reduced the number of accidents in three states and the nation’s capital. Accidents in New York, Connecticut, California, and Washington D.C., who have enacted the cell phone bans, are not experiencing a reduction in crashes compared to other states who do not have such laws, which is puzzling experts, as reported by CNN.

A spokesperson for the Highway Loss Data Institute stated, “The laws aren’t reducing crashes, even though we know that such laws have reduced hand-held phone use, and several studies have established that phoning while driving increases crash risk.” The report indicated that there has been no fluctuations of the amount of crashes before or after the laws were enacted. In states like Virginia and Maryland, who do not have the cell phone bans have the same rates as states who do have the ban. The Highway Loss Data Institute is currently trying to determine why the ban is not reducing the amount of crashes. Officials believe that drivers in areas with the ban have obtained hands-free devices, whose accident rates are at the same level as the hand-held devices.
