Legal news for Pennsylvania work-related firefighter deaths—Three firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling a blaze.

Scranton, PA (NewYorkInjurNews.com) – Flames ripped apart a two-story home and sent three firefighters to the hospital Monday, January 18, 2010, according to The Times-Tribune.

Sixty firefighters responded to the scene of the blaze in Wayne County’s Berlin Township when the fire broke out at 2:45 p.m. Five separate companies of firefighters came to combat the out of control blaze early Monday morning amidst the icy road conditions. The two people living in the house escaped unscathed after the fire broke out. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene where firefighters were injured battling the flames.

One firefighter sustained a leg injury and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Another firefighter slipped and fell off the roof of the burning house. He was also taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. It took firefighters an hour to bring the flames under control.

A third firefighter complained of pain in his chest and was taken to the hospital for examination. The homeowners, identified as Dan and Jessie Corrigan, escaped their home unharmed before it turned into a fiery inferno. Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze, which is currently undetermined. The wintry weather conditions reportedly caused some delays for the responding fire trucks One of the assisting vehicles slid off the road en route the blaze.
