Lynnfield, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The Company HP Hood and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have announced the voluntarily recall of Heluva Good branded 8 ounces plastic cup containers of Cold Pack Cheese January 11, 2010 due to possible contamination.

It was discovered that some of the packaged Cold Pack Cheese Food was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which is an organism that can pose a potential serious health risk in young children, the elderly, and those with immune system deficiencies if it is ingested. If the contaminated product was consumed, symptoms of poisoning are headache, stiffness, nausea, high fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Ingestion of this organism can also pose a threat of miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women.

There have been no illnesses reported to the company or to the FDA in connection with this recall of Heluva Good Cold Pack Cheese Food. The UPC numbers of the recalled Cheese products are the: 8 oz. plastic cup containers of Heluva Good Port Wine Cold Pack Cheese Food UPC 73570 55503 with the expiration dates of 11/15/2010 through 12/15/2010 and 8 oz. plastic cup containers of Heluva Good Sharp Cheddar Cold Pack Cheese Food UPC 73570 55501with the expiration dates 11/15/2010 through 12/15/2010.

These potentially contaminated products were distributed in stores located in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, Maine, New Hampshire, Maryland, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Ohio. This recall is precautionary measures taken by HP Hood as a result of sampling the cheese in Wisconsin that showed some of the product was contamination after being packaged.
