FDA to shut down N.J. Cheese Manufacturer

Legal news for New Jersey product liability attorneys –Food and Drug Administration files against N.J. cheese manufacturer of Mexican cheese for health code violations.

Newark, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov filed a complaint for a permanent injunction against a New Jersey Cheese Manufacturer for insanitary conditions and Listeria-contaminated products, announced Monday, January, 4, 2010.

The New Jersey-based company, Quesos Mi Pueblito, had reportedly received multiple warnings from the FDA, but failed to comply. The FDA asked a federal court to shut down the company on claims that the company had a history of unsanitary working conditions and cheese contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The Department of Justice has filed for a permanent ban against the Passaic company along with two officers, Felix Sanchez and Jesus Galvez. The New Jersey Department of Health and the FDA inspections proved that the cheese was contaminated and that working conditions were not up to standard. If the ban is passed, the company will have to comply with FDA and health code standards or be permanently shut down.

“FDA’s work with federal and state partners to root out or remedy food manufacturers not compliant with food safety laws ensures safer foods get to our dinner tables,” stated the FDA’s acting associate commissioner for regulatory affairs. The company, Quesos Mi Pueblito, distributed Mexican cheese that was sold to grocery stores in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

The company products were identified as queso oaxaca, queso fresco, queso requeson and queso cotija molido.
