Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) officials for Kentucky investigate fatal injury at a Ford Motor Co. Kentucky Truck Plant.

Louisville, KY—A Ford Motor Co. maintenance worker was tragically killed on the job at the Kentucky Truck Plant on Saturday morning, December 26, 2009, according to information provided by the Detroit Free Press. This fatality was allegedly the first for a United Auto Worker (UAW) at either of the two Louisville-based Ford factories since the mid-1970s.

It was reported that an l-beam fell on Ronald S. Cassady, 54, when he was attempting to cut it down with a torch, subsequently severing an artery after landing on his head and neck. The incident was allegedly reported to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday. Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel transported Cassady to University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 9:24 a.m., according to the Jefferson County deputy coroner.

Since 2000, there have been an alleged seven health or safety violations, four of them which were considered to be serious at the Kentucky Truck Plant, according to data provided by the Labor Cabinet records. It was also noted that in comparison to other industrial plants, Ford has a good safety record. The most recent recorded injury at the plant happened in 2007 when a worker was injured when using a piece of machinery that was not equipped with safety guarding.

Inspectors from the Occupational Safety and Health administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov for the State of Kentucky allegedly investigated the scene on Sunday. Officials from Ford Motor Co. and Union Auto Workers will be investigating, and an official accident report will allegedly take a few months to be released.
