IKEA recalls children’s highchairs for falling, choking hazard

December 28, 2009 (NewYorkInjuryNews.com - Injury News, Product Liability)

IKEA highchairs recalled due to injury threat for children.

Legal news for Pennsylvania Product Liability attorneys—IKEA highchairs recalled due to falling and choking hazard.

Conshohocken, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The government agency the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov, in cooperation with IKEA home furnishing, announced the voluntary recall of LEOPARD Highchairs due to injury hazard for small children. All parents and caregivers are advised to discontinue use of the recalled products.

There were about 600 leopard highchairs sold worldwide and 11 reports of the highchair’s snap locks breaking, which could allow the child to fall out of the chair. The broken snap locks could also pose a choking hazard for infants and small children. IKEA received reports of one child who fell through the frame of the highchair and sustained bruised legs. Another report stated that one baby had put its mouth on the snap lock. There have not been any injuries reported in the United States due to the defect.

The highchairs are described as having a tray with an adhesive label on the back side of the tray with the words LEOPARD and “Made in Italy” on it. The supply number is also printed on the tray as 19589.

The IKEA products were only sold at IKEA stores across the country from October 2009 through November 2009. The price of the product was about $60. The seat and the frame were sold separately. All who have purchased theses chairs are advised to return the defective product to an IKEA location for a full refund. For more information concerning the recall, contact IKEA at (888) 966-4532, or visit the company online at www.ikea-usa.com
