Sylvania and CPSC recall Portable Rocketship nightlights

Legal news for Massachusetts product liability attorneys –Osram Sylvania Products Inc. and CPSC recalled nightlights due to electric shock hazard for consumers.

Boston, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com)– The government agency the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov in cooperation with Osram Sylvania Products Inc, of Danvers, M.A., announced the recall of portable nightlights due to an electric shock hazard, on December 10, 2009.

The company recalled about 26,000 of the nightlights due the bottom plastic cover of the rechargeable base breaking and exposing internal electrical machinery. The nightlights exposed components can pose a shock hazard. The name of the product is LED Rocketship PalPODzzz portable nightlights.

The company has received three reports of the bottom breaking, and consumers having been shocked by a minor electrical current. The nightlights were manufactured in China. The defective product can be identified by its model number 72174 with the date codes of “0808” or “0908”, which can be found in print on the label attached to the rechargeable base of the nightlight.

The nightlights are shaped like a rocket ship and sits in a plastic rechargeable base. The nightlights were sold at Home Depot, Stop and Shop, as well as other retail stores across the United States. They could also have been purchased online at Amazon.com, Smarthome.com, and the company’s store online.

The products were priced at $15 to $20 from October 2008 through November 2009. All consumers are advised to discontinue use immediately and contact the company for a free replacement nightlight and a $5 coupon for future Osram Sylvania products.
