Legal news for Rhode Island Work-related Firefighter deaths–Four brave firefighters were injured after saving a mother and daughter in a Rhode Island house blaze.

Providence, RI (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Firefighter’s saw two women reaching out the out the window of their smoke-filled home yelling for help. Firefighters rushed into the burning inferno on Thursday, December 10, 2009, according the Providence Journal.

The house at 517 Hope Street, in Mount Hope, was quickly becoming engulfed in flames when four brave firefighters ran up the stairs in the house to rescue the panicked mother and daughter.

The mother and daughter were 20-feet off the ground in the second story of the home, as the blaze radiated heat in all directions of the room.

The Fire Chief said that if the firefighters had hesitated, the black acrid smoke would have overcome the women. As firefighters raced up the stairs to rescue the two victims, other firemen raised a ladder to the window. Firefighter Paul Macedonio, said that the women screaming for their lives is something that he could not forget.

Firefighters rescued one woman and they escaped down the stairs, while the other was carried out through the window on the ladder. Both the mother and daughter suffered from excessive smoke inhalation.

Emergency medical services (EMS) transported the traumatized women to the Rhode Island Hospital to be cared for by doctors and nurses. The family also had two pet dogs that were rescued by the firefighters and taken to Warwick Animal Hospital.

The four brave firefighters who risked their lives to save the family were injured when they went looking inside the flaming rooms for other possible victims. They were taken to Rhode Island Hospital where they were treated for lacerations, burns, and an injured knee. It took firefighters 45 minutes to gain control over the fire. Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
