Police horses injured 7 pedestrians in NY.

Legal news for New York Personal Injury attorneys –Seven pedestrians were injured by Oneida County Sheriffs horses at a tree lighting ceremony in Rome, New York.

Rome, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A beautiful evening of fireworks at the annual holiday Christmas tree lighting ceremony turned horrifying when seven people were trampled by police horses, on Friday, December 3, 2009, announced the Oneida Daily Dispatch.

Oneida County Sheriffs Mounted Patrol’s trained horses were spooked by the Holiday festivities, when fireworks went off. The horses then ran into the crowd of people gathered for the event. Although the Oneida County Sheriffs were riding the horses, they could not control the large frightened animals from running at the crowd of pedestrians.

Several of the horses entered the areas where parents, children and grandparents were terrified for their lives as the horses charged into the mass of attendees.

The horses victimized four children and three adults. Emergency medical services (EMS) along with Rome City police officials arrived at the scene to treat and transport the injured. The extent of the injuries were not reported, but there were no reported life-threatening injuries.

The Mayor of Rome, James Brown, commented on the scary situation and said that he was relieved that the men and women and children who were injured maintained less than serious injuries. He expressed his remorse that anyone was injured on what was supposed to be an enjoyable city wide event.

EMS transported four of the victims to be treated by doctors and nurses at Rome Hospital. They were released after treatment. The bizarre incident continues to be under investigation.
