Personal Injury Accident Notice: Texting driver strikes cyclist in N.J.

Legal news for New Jersey Personal Injury attorneys—A bicyclist was struck and injured by a driver of a Oldsmobile Cutlass who was texting in Medford, New Jersey.

Medford, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A driver was distracted while texting, and struck a bicyclist on Monday evening, November 16, 2009, announced the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Police and emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene in Medford on Route 70. The driver of the car was identified as 28-year-old Robert Sharrer, resident of Browns Mills. Police reported that upon arrival of the scene, the female cyclist, 42-year-old Lisa Granert suffered multiple fractures in the crash. She had been wearing protective gear and a reflective vest and helmet when she was struck by the car.

Sharrer had reportedly been texting about a drug dealer at the time of the 6:30 p.m. wreck, when his 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass veered off to the shoulder of the road. Granert was transported via ambulance to Cooper University Hospital where she was treated by doctors and nurses for multiple facial fractures, a leg, and vertebra.

Police searched Sharrer’s vehicle and found prescription drugs that were not in his name. He was charged with intent to distribute the drugs. Charges are pending regarding personal injury accident. In the state of New Jersey, texting while driving or use of any other hand-held communication device is illegal.
