Virginia pilot crashes in Hudson Valley following mechanical failure

Clermont, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) ― The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) www.faa.gov investigated a plane crash where a Virginia pilot landed in the Hudson Valley on 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2009 due to an undiscovered mechanical problem, announced My Fox Boston.

State police reported that the 50-year-old pilot was flying a single-engine 1946 Ercoupe plane when he lost power due to a reported mechanical issue.

The pilot, Jay Morrissett, resident of Bumpass, Va., had just purchased the single-engine plane that flipped over and crashed barely missing buildings before landing in a field. Morrissett was the only person on board when the aircraft went down. The two-seater aircraft was found upside down with the nose wheel collapsed in the open field.

State Troopers reported that the small airplane was found in a farm field in Columbia County, 40 miles south of Albany, New York. Medical personnel treated Morrissett at the scene for minor injuries.

Officials reported that Morrissett was heading toward Kingston after he had just purchased the plane in New Hampshire. His final destination was Virginia.
