Construction Accident Report: Connecticut firefighters rescue trapped worker

New Haven, CT (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) www.osha.gov is investigating an incident where a construction worker was trapped and injured when a large metal cage collapsed on Route 34 Friday, October 30, 2009, announced the New Haven Register.
Police reported that the worker was pinned between the cage and the wooden platform until firefighters arrived to rescue him around 10 a.m. A crane lifted the heavy metal cage off the worker to relieve some of the pressure on the trapped worker’s legs and back.
Firefighters moved quickly to place wooden blocks to hold up the cage before they crawled into the space where they sawed the wooden platform from around the man to free him.
One of the Paramedic Firefighter’s, Kenny Oliver, made his way to the injured worker and began treating him during the stressful rescue operation. The worker reportedly sustained a fractured leg.
A second worker also suffered minor injuries at the scene. His name was not released. The workers had been rehabilitating Interstate 95 along Long Wharf and the renovation of the new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, which is expected to be complete in 2015.
