Chicago, IL—A man died from his injuries he sustained when a piece of his clothing became entangled in a piece of sewer equipment on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. The construction accident happened on Saturday, October 17, 2009 around 7:30 a.m. outside a home on the 700 block of North Merrill Street, as reported by Pioneer Local.

Park Ridge police reported, Joseph Patyk, 32, of the 800 bock of Lawndale Avenue in Skokie, was working with a power rodder to clean out a drain outside a home. A piece of Patyk’s clothing apparently got caught in the machine and twisted the clothing around the workers neck. Patyk was reportedly found unconscious by a neighbor who the alerted the homeowner of the injured worker. The homeowner found a piece of the workers hooded sweatshirt entangled around Patyk’s neck, with the other end caught around a long piece of the sewer equipment, which he was using at the time of the accident. Patyk was rushed to Advocate Lutheran Genera Hospital in Park Ridge by emergency medical services (EMS) crews for treatment of his serious injuries. Unfortunately, the worker passed away on Tuesday, and will undergo an autopsy on Wednesday at the Cook County Medical Examiners office.
